For the Love of Books

Blog Posts

Since I was a kid, I have made up little stories in my head as I tried to go to sleep. The stories have always been supernatural in nature for one specific reason. My health sux.
Let me explain. I've had migraines every day since I was 5 years old. Cluster headaches for 6 months out of the year since I was twelve. I'm in my mid-forties now. I've had CIN3 electrocuted out and endometriosis chopped out twice. They found it pretty much everywhere on my organs and the outer cervix, everywhere except inside the cervix where it's normally found.

Anyways, that's a lot of years with a lot of pain, and the way my brain can cope is by giving the pain a purpose. In my stories, having some sort of supernatural power is painful, or the pain is from the powers developing, or it's a demon or beast trying to claw its way out. Somehow, it helps me process and accept my own pain and helps me cope.  read more

I started this blog with the best intentions of writing every single day. Either something about music, craft, books, or even my little english staffy Kiwi. But you know what they say...

I have had a crap month so far. I finished up at a retail job after working there for two years. I made mistakes here and there, and ended up being the butt of a joke.

Some of these people I knew outside of work before starting. We were friendly. At the begining it was good. I felt helpful. The other girl was on leave a lot the first year, both sick leave for family and annual leave. I didn't take sick days and only took minimal annual leave during my time there. read more

Book Give away Headache

I never thought it would cost so much to give away a couple of books. I'm an indie author so I don't have the marketing resources and credentials of traditionally published authors and publishers.

I've been trying for a year now to promote my book Valkyries on the Rise. I run advertisements on Amazon that produce no sales. I put my book on Etsy and run advertisements but I don't get any sales there either. read more

To look at the cover of Valkyries on the Rise, it seems quite plain and nondescript but to understand why, you need to know a little bit about the world created in this novel.

The cover represents the darkness of the apocalypse, the filtering colored light of the realm portal tears. The feather represents the last of the Valkyries and their fight to save what is left of the human race since their sisters died in the war. The sword and wings are the strength of the Valkyries, their emblem, one Valkyrie in particular, Tora Thurgood.  read more

So, In 2024, I published my first dystopian fantasy fiction novel on Amazon. It's meant to be the first in a series of nine books, and so far I have only written the first with the second in mind, mapped out, ready to go.

Manuscript Template

The first lesson I learned when publishing on Amazon is, download the size template you want your book to be from Amazon before you write your manuscript - read more

A Colliding Realms Novel by TRL Boyd

Check out my book on Amazon if you're into post-apocalyptic dystopian fantasy fiction that feels like a punch to the face. It's more action than getting some action. Click on the photo or heading to go to Amazon.

All Tora Thurgood ever wanted was to be a fully-fledged Valkyrie, but when the war came and the demons rained down on the Realm of Man, she thought she had lost her chance forever.

At first, they thought it was rain. Water fell from the sky in large drops. Auburn leaves spiraled along the ground in beautiful weaving patterns, climbing the trees of Washington Square Park.

She remembers the water, the smell of sulfur, and the smoke and fire that followed. Then from the heavens came hell, raining unspeakable wrath on all below.

Night after night she hunts the demons and malevolent fae plaguing the Realm of Man, and tries to protect what little she has left; her mother Freya, her best friend Astra, and her squad of highly trained human fighters.

Tora just wants to be whole, to gain her wings, but the Valkyrie ritual isn't what she thought, and she will do anything to prevent Astra from being forced into the ritual, even if that means forsaking the nine realms.
